Dining room table, 44"w x 72"l x 30"h. The rugged central stretcher locks into each end of the table by way of a large dovetail joint, with a slightly smaller one working the same way above, up under the tabletop. The lightly-tapered table legs and the stretchers incorporate some nice curly cherry. The seven-plank top has breadboard ends fastened with square pegs and is hand-planed for a rich, rippled feel. Finished with multiple coats of Danish oil and satin polyurethane. The bench is of similar design and allows the kids to be packed in.

A four-drawer black cherry chest to be used as a bedside table. A bread-boarded shelf just below the tabletop pulls out to provide additional space for a cup of tea and a book. Sides and back are flat-paneled. Mortise and tenon joints are square-pegged for durability and visual interest. Drawers are constructed with handcut half-blind dovetails and are graduated from the top down: 4", 5", 6", and 7". Poplar drawer sides with bookmatched butternut drawer bottoms. Hand-turned drawer pulls.

Hemlock planks salvaged from the customers' old barn. That nice patina only comes with time. The bench sits beside the kitchen door and is a place to put on or take off boots, which can be stored out of sight behind the sliding doors underneath. In the corner, a tall cabinet is filled with cubbies for keeping hats and gloves organized.
